Destiny giving away beta codes on Twitter this week

On the official Destiny Twitter account, Bungie has teased that it will be giving away beta keys this week. "You might want to keep checking back in with us this week; we'll be posting #Destiny Beta codes randomly each day." ...

Xbox Live Gold members can now download Halo 3 for free photo
Xbox Live Gold members can now download Halo 3 for free
by Brett Makedonski

Well, here's the much-welcomed end to this bungled saga. After being perpetually confused as to when Halo 3 would make its appearance as one of the titles in Microsoft's Games with Gold program, Xbox Live Gold members can finally download Master Chief's 2007 odyssey for free right now through the end of the month.

I'd imagine that it has to be a pretty minuscule sect that actually wants to play Halo 3, but hasn't already. I mean, did you see the part up top where I mentioned it's from 2007? At least some people can upgrade to a digital version before giving their disc to the newspaper boy as a half-assed Christmas present. Oh yeah, no one reads the newspaper anymore. Well, you figure it out then.

Now we can wrap up complaining about this Games with Gold title before moving onto complaining about the next Games with Gold title.

Pre-order Destiny for beta access in early 2014

Bungie is going to release a public beta for Destiny next year and if you want in, you're looking at a pre-order of the game in the near future. Everyone who put money down prior to today is good to go -- look for a redeemab...

Halo 3 will be free later this month on Xbox Live photo
Halo 3 will be free later this month on Xbox Live
by Jordan Devore

Tomorrow, you'll be able to nab Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes for free on Xbox Live -- assuming you are a Gold member. Again, this masterful puzzle game from Capybara is worth the small amount of effort required to start the download. Do check it out.

October's second Games with Gold title doesn't need as much of an introduction: it's Halo 3. The full game will be available on Xbox Live starting October 16, 2013. People are still buying Xbox 360s for the first time, it should be pointed out. But still -- Halo 3?

Of course Microsoft would feature this, so at least we're getting it out of the way.

Destiny's box art could have been so much more

I shouldn't let box art bother me like this, but I'm unable to stop wondering what other covers were rejected in favor of this one for Destiny. It's pretty standard, which is what makes it disappointing -- there's so much pot...

Grand Theft Yoga, Destiny's Sunsets & Elder Subscriptions
by Max Scoville

Hey gang! Here's that darn Destructoid Show again! Hooray!

The news: Steve Ballmer's gonna retire from Microsoft, Elder Scrolls Online has a subscription fee as well as a cash shop, there's some talk about exchanging your current-gen games for next-gen ones, Destiny is very pretty, a whole bunch of games just got release dates, and Grand Theft Auto V was clearly made by perverted teenage boys who have just no respect for Yoga. Hmph.

Destiny looks so goddamn gorgeous

I still have a hard time believing Destiny is actually possible given the scope of the entire project. You're going to have multiple worlds to explore, so many guns to play with, tons of enemies to kill, and it all looks gor...

Bungie's designing Destiny to deal with trollish behavior

With Halo, Bungie introduced a lot of what defines console shooters. Two weapon slots, stable online play, as well as whole host of other less than desirable online behavior. Speaking with Edge, Bungie's Chris Butcher admits ...

Bungie worked on a game that was 'sort of Minecraft-like'

In a great interview with IGN, Bungie co-founder Jason Jones came out of the woodwork to talk about a wide range of topics, from Marathon to the studio's upcoming Destiny. One of the more interesting pieces of information is ...

Bungie artists walk us through Destiny footage

Remember last week when Bungie released footage of Destiny that was essentially the same thing shown at E3 2013? That was pretty cool. Or, it would have been, according to some of you, had the dialogue between players not fe...

Bungie co-founder takes credit/blame for Halo's pistol

Love it or hate it, Halo's iconic pistol will be remembered where so many other firearms featured in first-person shooters will not. Speaking to IGN in a rare interview appearance, Bungie co-founder Jason Jones recounted how ...

Again, in high definition: Destiny's E3 walkthrough

I'm really starting to come around to Destiny. While this is more or less the walkthrough we saw back at E3, seeing it in HD as opposed to on a live stream while mentally and physically exhausted has done wonders for my anti...

I'm officially getting excited for Bungie's Destiny photo
I'm officially getting excited for Bungie's Destiny
by Steven Hansen

We saw Destiny running, live, on multiple PlayStation 4's, and I'm suddenly a bit more into the whole ordeal. We began on a run down Earth in the same spot last night's Sony press conference featured. In the more intimate, closed-doors setting we got to take a bit more time to stop and smell the roses, which turned out to be just what I needed.

The game is ridiculously pretty. We were shown off the dynamic lighting system which will give areas different feels based on time of day, helping to sell the world as a livable, believable place. Every blade of browned grass rustled in the wind as the trees bent and creaked against the breeze. Both on the large and small scale, the game world is picturesque and alive.

After an amazing, third-person dance taunt, the team of heroes headed inside and I was sad to say goodbye to the sweeping vista -- until they walked into the beautifully realized indoor environments.

The Destiny debut we've been waiting for

Bungie took its sweet time before revealing the first gameplay of Destiny tonight during Sony's E3 press conference. Was it worth the wait? That remains to be seen, but I like what was shown. It came across as a mix of Borde...
