It never dawned on me how well the characters, world, and tone of Zombies Ate My Neighbors could work within the confines of Doom. Thankfully, a modder named Dude27th put two and two together.
The water gun, soda cans, bazooka, and babies – it all just fundamentally works!
This Doom II total-conversion project isn’t finished – in fact, the last update was pushed in July 2019 – but the footage captured by YouTube user Smokeanaut warms my horror-loving heart all the same.
This game may never come back in style in an official capacity, but fans will never let it die.
