Smart Match sounds pretty good, actually

Smart Match, the new matchmaking system for Xbox One, sounds like a natural extension of the current setup on Xbox 360. Users will be paired together based on skill, language, and reputation and other criteria including age and “specific gameplay style” which all sounds good in theory, but we’ll see. A post on Xbox.com walks through a few of the highlights.

If you’re more concerned with just getting into an online match as soon as possible, that’s where Smart Match really seems to come together. Freeing us from waiting around in lobbies, with digital games, you can play one while the matchmaking for a second game is being set up. Xbox.com also suggests things like reading Reddit on the console with the Snap mode functionality that allows you to do two things simultaneously. Nice name drop there.

Once your match is finalized, you’ll get a pop-up notification — no matter where you are — that can bring you back into the original game. Slick. I also like the sound of being able to set up matches for your entire Xbox Live party — that could come in handy.
