Xbox One supports playing your game while it downloads

Next-gen consoles doing next-gen things

The days of queuing up a game and patiently waiting while it downloads look as if they’ll die with the next generation of consoles. Microsoft confirmed to Polygon that all titles purchased on Xbox Live will be playable concurrent to the game downloading in the background on Xbox One.

This news comes months after Sony revealed that the PlayStation 4 has the exact same infrastructure for downloadable titles on PlayStation Network. Both systems will additionally allow players to install disc-based games while playing them.

I guess this is one of the many little improvements that the next generation of consoles will offer to improve the user experience that we’ve just accepted in the current generation. We’ll probably take it for granted before too long, but it’ll be pretty damn cool in the meantime.
