Captures at 30 FPS
Marc Whitten took the stage at the Xbox One event to detail how Kinect will factor into the new system. An updated Kinect will come bundled with each Xbox One console, and will be a 1080p RGB camera capturing video at 30 FPS.
The Kinect was being used for most of the menu navigation at the event, using both voice commands and motion gestures. The Kinect will also now sense more skeletal joins, allowing for more precise capturing. It can even apparently read heartbeat sensors, which I’m sure will be used for some exercise game that always shows up on motion-centered consoles.
Perhaps most importantly, Mr. Whitten mentioned the Kinect sensing the player and a controller, implying that they’re leaning more towards using a standard controller and the Kinect in tandem, allowing the Kinect to take a backseat and make things like issuing squad commands easier.
