Xbox Live Gold memberships will be accessible on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One when it releases later this year, Microsoft’s Phil Harrison told Polygon

“If you have an Xbox Gold membership today for 360 and you buy an Xbox One, your membership applies to both systems,” Harrison said. “You don’t have to get another subscription.”

Additionally, Microsoft’s Ben Kilgore said that multiple users in a household can utilize a single Gold membership, and each user will have access to their own friends list and other options. Kilgore referenced a father and son scenario, and said that so long as the father has a Gold membership, his son will, too, each with separate accounts.

“We want you to log in to get your stuff, and when he logs in to get his stuff,” Kilgore said. “On that console, if you have Gold, he can use Gold as well.”

Kilgore added that the kinks in this system are still being ironed out, such as exactly how the friends system will work, stating it’s currently “under development.”
