South Africa sees the biggest hike
Xbox Live Gold prices are going up in six different countries and most of you can stop holding your breath, as the afflicted are: Austria, Hungary, Israel, South Africa, Sweden, and Turkey.
In South Africa, the monthly price has tripled, from USD equivalent of $3.25 per month to $10.33 per month — which is, of course, in line with the United States price of $9.99/month. Other hikes should end up “normalizing” at the equivalent.
Microsoft offered the following statement to Game Informer: “We occasionally update pricing in a given market to provide a balance of service and value, and in some instances, meet currency fluctuations within the region, and will be adjusting the price of Xbox Live Gold subscription in a small number of markets on June 20, 2016. We do so always keeping in mind that our goal is to offer our members the premium gaming and entertainment service at a fair price.”
