Windows Phone 7 Series to support Xbox LIVE mobile

Today Microsoft has announced its next mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7 Series. The part that’s relevant to your interests is — surprise! — it will support Xbox LIVE.

According to the press release, the Games “hub delivers the first and only official Xbox LIVE experience on the phone.” This will include Xbox LIVE games, avatars, achievements, your gamer profile, and more. No word on to what extent it will support Xbox LIVE games, but we hope to hear more soon.

A few years back I had been using a Windows Mobile phone, and ended up switching to other platforms due to faster performance and a more rich feature set. With the introduction of Android-based phones and the iPhone, Windows Mobile has been overshadowed the past few years. But with the introduction of Xbox LIVE support, that could change everything…
