We keep going back and forth on Microsoft Points. Rumors from earlier this year pointed to MS phasing out the silly points, but when we thought we saw price listings changing to real world money we learned that it was just internal error, and that the point system was here to stay.

Now, The Verge points to a change in what they say is a final copy of Windows 8, where prices for purchases and rentals are listed in real money, and not Microsoft Points. They found that they were able to use a credit card for purchases to do things like pay for music or rent movies. Microsoft Points were still useable, but the store defaults to credit card use.

If this change is permanent for Windows 8 let’s hope that it will also affect Xbox Live at some point.
