You may have heard a rumor that there’s a way to experience the thrill of ship-to-ship combat in Starfield without worrying about exploding. Sometimes in life, that’s all we can ask for. It’s true: Starfield has a flight simulator for any willing pilot, and we know the location. And the reason you should care.
Piloting and piloting well are two markedly different things in Starfield. Sure, you can hold the throttle down and click until everything around you stops moving. But what will you do in a real fight against a more-skilled space pirate? Knowing when to pull power from the engines to send to weapons and vice versa is an important skill. As is the experience gained in ascertaining situations in which you’re better off running and waiting for your shields to refresh. In Starfield, you can practice all these skills safely.
The Starfield flight simulator location is behind a recruitment barrier
You learn about the UC Vanguard via an early campaign mission. The game offers a chance to join, but you certainly don’t have to. However, if you want to locate the flight simulator, joining the faction is a quick way to do so. Head to the MAST District located in New Atlantis, Jemison. From there, go to the MAST lobby. Take a left as you enter and speak with Commander Tuala. Tell him you want to join (if you haven’t yet), and he’ll point you to the elevator. After a history lesson, you step into the flight simulator.
You must complete at least the third level of the flight simulator to pass, but you can return and try again. All you need to do is head back to the UC, enter the elevator, and choose the ‘Vanguard Pilot Simulator’ option. You can keep trying until you beat the highest difficulty of level 6.
The flight simulator is the best way to level up Piloting skill
The flight simulator offers you the option to upgrade your Piloting skill in Starfield without chasing down enemy ships. Even though it’s technically not real combat, it’s real enough to reward you experience points. And if that’s not enough, beating level 6 gives you a respectable chunk of change. Check out our guide for tips and tricks on how to beat the simulator. Best of luck, pilots.
