I already regret looking into this
I’ve cherished this summer as a chance to catch up on video games that slipped through the cracks in 2019 or otherwise felt like too much of a time commitment to get into at launch, but soon enough, it’ll be fall. The big-hitters will begin rolling out week after week, offering little if any breathing room even for folks who shy away from time-hogging games-as-a-service releases and meaty RPGs.
There’s something to be said for waiting to play games until well after launch, not just for the sake of a smoother, oftentimes less frustrating experience, but also as a way save a bit of money and give the pent-up excitement in the air a chance to cool down. That said, there are always going to be those games you can’t seem to wait on – the stuff you’ve been desperately following all year long.
I’m not much of a planner, but on a slow day like today, my mind wanders. I’m forced to think about the future, no matter how uneasy that can be. I’ve started to sort through my list of games, and I bet many of you have begun mapping out your budget and schedule for the rest of the year too. Let’s figure it out.
My next few months will look a little something like this:
- September: Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Borderlands 3 (???). Also, Control and Man of Medan, both of which are late-August releases that I probably won’t get on day one but will want to check out sooner rather than later. Actually, shoot, same goes for Astral Chain. This list is already ominous.
- October: The Outer Worlds, MediEvil, and Luigi’s Mansion 3. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is another contender, but it’ll depend on which mini-games make the cut and if I’m in an impulse mood. I want to tell future-me this is a bad idea, but he won’t listen.
- November: Death Stranding, Doom Eternal, Planet Zoo, and Pokémon Sword.
- December: I will become a big, toasty cinnamon bun.
That’s to say nothing of all the indie games that are bound to pop up, or my backlog, or titles that don’t yet have specific dates. Is Warcraft III: Reforged still coming out in 2019? I’ll need to find room.
Brett is currently freaking out because too many reviews are gonna come his way too fast, and I feel him. It’s eerily quiet right now. But soon, it’ll be gamescom. Then PAX. Then Tokyo Game Show.
