Wargaming is pushing for quicker updates on Xbox 360

Current certification process ‘unacceptable’ for free-to-play

Although it’s highly unlikely I’ll play much World of Tanks on Xbox 360 outside of sheer curiosity for how Wargaming will bring the game over from PC, I must say, its arrival on the console is one I’m greatly anticipating. This port has put CEO Victor Kislyi in a position to work with Microsoft more closely, and his team is apparently trying to influence things that will affect all of us — namely, the notoriously long certification process for Xbox 360.

“The good thing is with online games, sometimes if you screw up, you can do frequent updates,” Kislyi told Polygon. “But one of the biggest challenges with Microsoft was the frequency of updates because the QA process and certification process takes an extremely long time. Totally unacceptable for a meaningful free-to-play. We are working with them to do quicker updates.”

Now, this could end up being one of those deals that a company like Wargaming can cut but other developers with less leverage cannot. Let’s hope that’s not the case — that Microsoft will finally see the value in allowing quick updates across the board. We’ve seen too many games thrive on PC while simultaneously decaying on consoles due to a lack of post-release support.
