I succumb to hype all the time when it comes to gaming industry showcases, but the June 2026 State of Play really feels like it could be a monumental one.
There have been some pretty substantial State of Play presentations over the years. The one from February earlier this year was pretty good, but if we’re comparing it to others that have taken place in June (to essentially replace E3 showcases) then this one is shaping up to be a whopper.
With Sony renting out movie theaters for the show, and confirmation that it’s going to be clocking in at over an hour long, there’s a lot of room for some big news. With the PS5 nearing the end of its life cycle, it’s time to hear from a lot of developers and studios to see what’s next from them.

Marvel’s Wolverine

We know this is happening, and it’s expected to kick off the show. I want to see gameplay, and I want to see X-Men. Show us who’s going to be in the game, and maybe even tease how it’s connected to Insomniac’s Spider-Man games ahead of its launch in September.
More 2026 titles
This showcase would be great for many publishers to show off what we know is coming in the next few months. Titles like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced, Beast of Reincarnation, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, Phantom Blade Zero, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and more all have 2026 release dates but need more footage and hype.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

It’s high time to see more from Naughty Dog’s next game. It’s been a year and a half since its debut trailer at The Game Awards 2024, so an update is needed.
Final Fantasy VIII Remake finale
Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Yuffie, and the rest of the gang have one final chapter to tell in the finale of the awesome FF7 Remake trilogy. A trailer and release date seem very possible.
Fairgame$, or it’s dead
The long-dormant heist shooter Fairgame$ has been missing in action for several years since its debut. If this showcase doesn’t include an update, it may be dead in the water.
New God of War

Rumors flying about a new God of War title featuring Kratos’s wife Faye and the Norse god of war Týr point to a potential reveal today. Santa Monica Studio has been quiet for some time, so this may be the day.
Marvel TOKON Fighting Souls
One of PS5’s big console-exclusives left in 2026, there are still several characters yet to be revealed. This one’s a safe bet to show off who will be joining the remaining two teams of four in the 2D fighter.
GTA 6

This is very unlikely, but a GTA 6 appearance would rock the internet and business world alike. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said marketing for the Nov. 19 launch will begin this summer, but a trailer or even just a confirmation that pre-orders are now available would take over the entire narrative of the industry.
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Requiem has some DLC confirmed to be on the way, so this showcase would be a good one to reveal its contents and release date. But with rumors of more remakes on the way, such as Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0, this could be the show to reveal more even further in the pipeline.
Astro Bot sequel

After Team Asobi’s massive success with the PlayStation-themed platformer, the franchise is one of Sony’s biggest and most promising. More Astro Bot would be amazing, and confirmation of its development with some sort of teaser would generate a lot of hype.
Halo: Campaign Evolved
Could you imagine? A Halo game at a PlayStation show? It’s likely not happening, but it would be wild to see, especially given XBOX’s big attempts at brand rehabilitation lately.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 3

The focus is on Wolverine, but the finale of Insomniac’s Spider-Man trilogy is coming eventually. It has to. They set up so much for the third game in the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and they need to come to fruition: Green Goblin, Silk, Chameleon, Carnage, on and on and on. Let us know that it’s coming, however far away it may be, with some official confirmation.
Destiny 3
This isn’t happening, but it would be a welcome tease to know that Sony and Bungie aren’t giving up on the franchise entirely, given Destiny 2’s live-service updates coming to an end. It’s not looking good for the series, so this is a real Hail Mary, but the years-long Destiny player in me will always have some hope left…at my own peril.
The Last of Us: Part III
Another one that’s probably not happening, but it would be great to know whether it’s in the works. If it is, it’s still many, many, many years away, but seeing a simple shot of Ellie or Abby would be enough to hype up the crowds.
Horizon 3

Although there are several spin-offs in development, the third Horizon game starring Aloy has likely been in the works at Guerrilla Games for several years. Could we get an announcement today?
Something new entirely
PlayStation has traditionally flourished with its triple-A singleplayer game and new IPs. I would love to see some new stuff, original content, and something that isn’t a sequel, reboot, or spin-off. Show us the goods, Sony. You own a lot of talented dev studios. Let them cook up something new.
Bloodborne

I had to. I lied about giving up hope. I’ll never give up. Give us a native PS5 port, if nothing else, and our money is yours.
