There are certain companies that can mention DLC and garner a positive reaction from me. Valve, for instance, is welcome to my money. Other companies can mention DLC and I’ll shudder with dread as to what’s coming. Ubisoft is one such company …  but let’s give it a chance.

“We certainly have plans for downloadable content, we can’t really say more than that right now,” claims producer Ben Mattes. “The intention is to do downloadable content that adds significant value, so I don’t think you’ll see downloadable content of a new skin or a new weapon or something like that.

“If we’re going to do it, it’s going to be a new story, a new experience, maybe a prequel, maybe a sequel – we’re going to do something that really offers a lot of value for the player. In terms of when: sometime next year – I’m not sure of exactly when, it’s all still in discussion.”

I don’t trust Ubisoft as far as I can throw them, but that does sound like downloadable content done right. It seems that console games are still dragging their heels when it comes to offering substantial content, so hopefully Prince of Persia can show them the way. We’ll see if Ubisoft lives up to its word, however.
