The marketing spend isn’t worth it otherwise, says CEO

From Rayman Legends losing exclusivity to the still-apparently-happening Watch Dogs port, Ubisoft sure has an interesting relationship with the Wii U. Speaking to Polygon, CEO Yves Guillemot said the company has a Wii U game that’s been “done for six months.”

What’s the hold up? Ubisoft is “waiting for more families to have the console” before it can justify a “massive” marketing campaign for the game. Guillemot wouldn’t commit to a specific sales figure the system needs to achieve, but said the mystery project may never see release, or more likely, “it could come out on another format.” That wouldn’t be anything new for Ubisoft.

From the sound of it — specifically his use of the word “families” — I don’t expect this to be something necessarily aimed at our demographic. All the same, Guillemot said “I think we have to wait for Smash Bros. to come … Nintendo is really coming up with fantastic games. They could, with the right price and very good games, help the machine start selling.”
