The Rainbow Six franchise has a wealth of installments, and when it comes to this amount of volume, you can’t always get them right. That’s the case for Rainbow Six Mobile, which is shutting down in January 2027, Ubisoft announced today.

The game will stay up until Jan. 15, 2027, the developer said, and its upcoming season “will be released as planned next week.” The announcement teases more updates to prepare for the transition, though it’s unclear what this means in practice.

Rainbow Six Mobile has had an unusual run since its reveal in 2022. At the time, Ubisoft said it was a version of Rainbow Six Siege built from the ground up to “adapt the Siege experience to mobile devices.”

Despite a few closed tests and soft launches after 2023 and a litany of changes in 2024, the game only released globally in February 2026. It has had less than eight months in the hands of players all over the world before being sunset—which, as we all know by now, is the “your dog went to live on a farm” of the gaming industry.

At first glance, Rainbow Six Mobile may almost seem doomed to fail. Siege‘s identity is built on its tactical, unforgiving gameplay—the kind that may get you to hold an angle with an ACOG on your gun, so tensely you can barely breathe. It’s a hard element to bring to a mobile game.

“Our goal is not to have you stop playing on PC or console and switch to mobile,” the team said on the announcement blog post. “We know there is nothing like the adrenaline rush of a close Siege match on the big screen or the precision of a mouse and keyboard.” Instead, the game aimed to let fans “get the R6 experience” in “short, accessible bursts,” the developers said.

It’s unclear what will happen to Rainbow Six Mobile until its shutdown date, but Ubisoft will announce more of its plans “in the coming weeks,” according to its announcement.
