Can you guess what Joe Gamer rented the most last year? Renowned research firm Rentrak (via Edge) released their hotly anticipated top 10 videogame rental list of 2008. The heavy hitters are basically what I expected, but it’s an interesting hierarchy nonetheless. Check it out:
- Grand Theft Auto IV, Xbox 360
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Xbox 360
- Halo 3, Xbox 360
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Xbox 360
- Army of Two, Xbox 360
- Mario Kart Wii, Wii
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wii
- Fallout 3, Xbox 360
- Assassin’s Creed, Xbox 360
- Mario Party 8, Wii
I use to work at a rental store that dealt with both porn and videogames. Our common crowd was the demographic — male in his 20s — which Microsoft has been most successful with. Titles like Halo 3 practically flew off the shelf. But so did Naughty Nurses 7, a very sub par flick.
The one notable exception from this list is a PlayStation 3 game. Does Sony need to work harder to get a game that people are eager enough to rent? Or does the common renter even matter? If he does matter, what the hell does that say about Army of Two?
