Collector’s Editions of video games are a luxury either way, but some titles just do it way better than others, apparently.
Last week, Rockstar Games made waves with the announcement of its shockingly priced $400 Collector’s Edition for Grand Theft Auto 6. It’s got a hat, sunglasses, stickers, and a bunch more…but no actual game. Enter Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis revealed its Collector’s Edition back in June (I didn’t think much of it at the time because I’m fully priced out of all these things these days), and it’s looking more in line with what gamers have come to expect…especially when it comes to price, which is half of what GTA 6 is asking. Gamers have noticed the discrepancy recently since Tomb Raider’s has come back in stock after selling out earlier this year, and they have begun picking apart the comparison online.
When the remake launches next year, the $200 Collector’s Edition includes the full game and a premium steel case, immediately making it more attractive for people who collect physical games. But it doesn’t end there. The main attraction is the Lara Croft vs. The T-Rex statue, which looks great from a distance, so we’ll see how the final product is.
It also includes a Collector’s Box, mini art book, Triumverate Talisman keychain, Croft Signet pin, and Digital Deluxe content that includes an early unlock for one of Lara’s outfits and even the post-launch story DLC pack that’s planned.
As I said above, this is a luxury either way. If you can afford $200, let alone $400 on the special edition of a video game, you’re doing alright. But the comparison between what you get in Tomb Raider vs. GTA 6 is shocking.
You do get quite a lot in the GTA 6 box, including some premium items like Oakley sunglasses and a New Era cap, but four hundred bucks and no game is a hard sell. It’s still in stock, as a matter of fact, so it appears it’s even more of a niche product than originally thought.
