Over 11 years after launching, it’s still revered as one of the best games of all time. You know what also helps? A massive, content-dense, quality-of-life patch that’s free for all players. That’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, and it’s out today.
As part of the launch ahead of the game’s anticipated Songs of the Past DLC launching next year, the Remastered version of the game just hit a new all-time high player count on Steam, so big that even the developers at CD PROJEKT RED acknowledged it online. The new peak of 120,324 broke the previous record of 103,329 back in January 2020.
“11 years after launch, more witchers are now walking the Path across the Continent than ever before,” the studio said on Twitter/X. “Seeing so many of you set out on this journey for the very first time, or relive it once more, means the world to us. Thank you for putting your trust in us, all these years later.”
And this success is very well deserved. The Remastered update includes a massive laundry list of improvements and updates, including a revamped skill system, better combat, UI/UX updates, improved photo mode, new accessibility options, and an exhaustive amount of quality-of-life changes. The Witcher 3 is also marked down to just $24.99 on Steam right now, so that only helps matters further. Either way, the amount of new and returning players joining Geralt’s adventure is something to be celebrated and commended given the scope of the update and the fact that it’s totally free. It includes all previous DLC, too. Kudos to CD PROJEKT RED on this one, for real.
