The Weekend Hotness: Green Lantern and Young Justice axed

Here’s how to completely kill any last shred of goodwill with fans in two easy steps. First, pull your Saturday morning cartoon block with barely any forewarning. Second, bring the block back in January, then announce that the returning shows will not be renewed for another season. I’m of course talking about this week’s announcement that Cartoon Network’s DC Nation will be getting rid of Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice.

The mishandling of these shows has been monumental. Sure, Green Lantern may have been pretty dull at times, and the ugly CGI wasn’t doing it any favors, but Young Justice was phenomenal! It was the terrible time slot — the same thing happened with ThunderCats, another show shoved into a single spot on Saturday morning and left to rot.

These programs needed primo prime time exposure. Know why Adventure Time and Regular Show remain so popular? Because new episodes come on late at night, and reruns air in large chunks throughout the week. Thankfully those shows are great, but Cartoon Network also gives this special treatment to pure sh*t that has no right to occupy the airwaves — I’m talking filth like The Annoying Orange, MAD, and Johnny Test a.k.a. the anti-Dexter’s Laboratory. Why does that garbage catch all the breaks while quality shows are shoved into the corner?

This weekend, Chris Carter and Patrick Hancock argue who’s going to win the Super Bowl; Storm’s Adventure tackles the Wii U; Sup, Holmes? invites Mark of the Ninja‘s Nels Anderson; new series PC Port Report scopes out the PC version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed; Dale North dives into the first 30 minutes of God of War: Ascension; we review a bunch of stuff; and yadda-yadda, I’m still pissed off at Cartoon Network.

Seriously, f*ck ’em.
