The Week in Rock Band DLC: Not quite the rest of Nirvana’s Nevermind, but almost

Next week’s Rock Band DLC offerings have been revealed — seven tracks off of Nirvana’s legendary album, Nevermind. They are:

“Breed,” “Lounge Act,” “On a Plain,” “Polly,” “Something in the Way,” “Stay Away,” and Territorial Pissings”

The pack can be purchased for $10.99 (880 MS Points) or for $1.99 (160 MS Points) per track. They’ll be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace next Tuesday, and PlayStation Network the following Tuesday.

Personally, I’m happy to see these tracks finally making their way to Rock Band, but I’m concerned. The lack of some of the albums “hit singles” is suspicious, particularly the lack of “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come As You Are,” and “Lithium.” In fact, save for those tracks, we’d have a complete album.

So where are they? Who knows. One could speculate that maybe the folks behind another music game came in and signed a fat blank check out in Courtney Love’s name to secure the rights. Or maybe Harmonix/MTV feel like they need to hold on to something for the inevitable retail follow up to Rock Band 2.

Whatever the case, Nirvana fans should be happy to be able to play most of the album. I certainly am.
