Here’s a mood-setting trailer for The Astronauts’ “weird fiction” horror game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. As with prior footage, this is looking quite nice. It’s the studio’s first real trailer not counting last year’s teaser video, and I like it. I would’ve preferred gameplay by now, but I like it.

There’s much we don’t know about Ethan Carter, so let’s recap what is known: this is a first-person, combat-less game in which you play as a detective who possesses the ability to see the final moments of murder victims. You’re on the trail of a missing boy, Ethan, and to make matters even more urgent, there’s been a killing in his hometown of Red Creek Valley.

The more clues you uncover, the clearer and longer your supernatural vision will remain. “Exactly how much you are able to discern from a corpse is entirely up to you,” says The Astronauts. “You might discover the motivation of the murderer, or find a hint of where to go next — or both.”
