DragonSword Awakening is available on PC, and there are a huge number of characters to pick from. While you play, you can unlock different characters with unique play styles. Some of them can be added to your roster. The idea is to have a balanced setup that will help you clear all types of content, but some characters appear to be better in terms of their abilities and what they offer.
Complete DragonSword: Awakening character tier list
To separate the characters, I have chosen three different teams. There are two important things to note before I dig deeper into the details:
- The characters feel extremely well-balanced in my experience with the game since launch. You can work with any team as long as your party members are complementary to one another.
- Investing points and resources into any character will significantly improve them, which can also bypass the possessions I have provided to them on this tier list.
S-tier

- Theresia: Theresia is not only powerful, but she has a unique set of abilities. You can switch between Consecration and Celestial Verdict to inflict either bleed or stun on the enemies. Her Divine Arc allows you to close in on a target and do incredible damage while inflicting bleed. Her Holy Rise also does a lot of damage while inflicting bleed. You will need to practice well to combine Consecration and Celestial Verdict, but she is perhaps the strongest character in the current meta.
- Lute: Lute is arguably the most beginner-friendly character to use. You can stun an enemy and do damage with Stun Slash. Healing Circle allows you to come out of a poor situation, and it also includes allies. Sword Grab allows you to capture an enemy and use it to hit others. Finally, Relic Fall does a lot of AoE damage when you manage to time it right. There are very few downsides, and Lute is someone you should invest in heavily.
- Reina: While she’s not the easiest of characters to manage, Reina offers a lot of mobility when you are airborne. You can use both Rising Cutter and Wind Slayer to inflict airborne status, apart from doing damage. Tempest is a good move to perform if you have a powerful enemy in front of you. Reina’s greatest strength is the possibility of landing different attacks when you are in the air.
- Ornette: She can inflict shock with both her active abilities. Holy Cross does a lot of damage due to its attack power. Holy Circle might not do as much damage, but it increases Ornette’s critical damage by 30%. This works well with both her Judgment and Holy Grail abilities.
- Kalsion: The King is a melee giant, and you’ll have a lot of fun using him. His weapon, Blaze, fires a burst of fire energy that deals damage and raises his attack power with Flame Wave. You can charge in and finish enemies within a radius by creating shock waves. Alternative modes are also available, offering more flexibility.
A-tier

- Charlotte: If you like playing as an assassin, Charlotte can easily be considered an S-tier. She is the only character who can take advantage of stealth and become invisible by summoning a clone in her spot. The clone explodes to do extra damage. Her poison daggers can inflict the poison status that leaches enemy health over time. The Illusion Kick allows Charlotte to get airborne, and Shadow Grab is always good to slam down enemies.
- Roxy: While there are better options for bleed when it comes to ability, Roxy is incredibly easy to master. Her Crimson Spiral makes her move forward and hit the enemy to inflict bleed and do damage. Her Bloody Shower fires arrows in a forward line. All enemies caught in its effect will also get inflicted with bleed. Both Bleeding Grab and Kick Storm allow you to control the movement pattern of the enemies, thereby giving you a distinct advantage during a fight.
- Charlotte: Charlotte might be one of the earliest characters to unlock in the game, but she is extremely effective when you know how to use her. She can knock down plenty of enemies and push them away from you, thereby giving you ground control. You can do the same by making use of her howling effects. Charlotte has no complicated mechanics to master, and she gets the job done effortlessly.
- Aria: I will admit that I was not a fan of Aria, but she slowly grew on me. She is a ranged attacker who can do plenty of explosive damage with her bombs. You can also time the explosions to a certain extent using her Switch-On ability. You can also use multiple bolts to make her act in a more traditional ranged fashion. Overall, she is a very fun character who you can pick early and add to your team, and she offers a lot of versatility.
- Dana: She is one of the few hybrid support characters that are present in the game. Most of her abilities work through her summon, Chako, who can deal damage, inflict frost, and knock down simultaneously. The golem can also be used to protect allies behind a shield. While Dana is slightly niche in terms of her usage potential, she can be a welcome addition to plenty of teams.
- Kalien: If you don’t mind using a complex character, Kalien can be a great choice. I say complex because her abilities take the form of a fox. Whether it’s Fox Chase or Fox Parade, you will need to learn to master the movement path. Otherwise, you will be wasting her potential. Both her abilities can do damage and also inflict burn, which chips away at the enemy’s health over time.
B-tier
- Alex: Alex is a suitable option to have in any team, but I feel that he is just far too defensive. Down Smash allows you to break the momentum of an enemy attack by inflicting a knockdown, while Guard Stance focuses on your defense and reduces the super armor depletion rate. He might work well in certain teams, but Alex is way too niche of a character in the current meta.
- Tarte: Tarte is a fun character to use, but much will depend on how actively you can trigger her holy orbs. You can use Bolt Bubble to continuously generate them and then use Lightning Shock to send a bolt forward. Ideally, you have to combine these two moves to do much of her damage. Tarte also offers a bit of healing. She’s not a bad character by any means, but I felt that she is extremely situational.
- Cerese: So far, I feel Cerese is great with Frost-based teams, but there are better options available in her role. That said, I really love Ice Storm and how it can change the tide of the battle by controlling the movement patterns of the enemies. Ice Turn and Frozen Spike can also inflict damage, frost, and airborne status effects as bonuses. Cerese does not fit well with most teams in the game.
the following characters are yet to be assessed:
- Sion
- Astria
- Eileen
- Othello
While following this tier list is key, always ensure that your team is well-balanced with characters who are complementary to one another.
