The third season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead begins December 20

‘Extended first look’ at the game scheduled for December 1

We’ll get a taste of season three of Telltale’s The Walking Dead before the year is over.

This five-episode run is dubbed “A New Frontier” and will first pick up on December 20, a little later than expected, across the studio’s usual long list of platforms (current- and last-gen consoles, PC, mobile). And before that date, Telltale will host an “extended first look” at The Game Awards on December 1.

If you’ve played any of the prior seasons of The Walking Dead and are wondering if that’s Clementine up there, yes, yes it most certainly is. But she won’t be the only character we’ll end up worrying about:

“When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.”

Telltale is doing a disc-based release for A New Frontier on February 7, 2017. That’s coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with the debut episode and then all later episodes as they become available. Pre-ordering the latter version digitally will net you The Walking Dead: Season Two and The Walking Dead: Michonne, though I suspect if you’re in that position, interest-wise, you own those already.

I’ve yet to get into the last few Telltale adventures, but I’m just invested enough in The Walking Dead‘s story so far that I won’t want to let the third season slip by me. I’ll ideally hold off until it’s over, though.
