The new Silent Hill: Ascension trailer has creepy horror movie vibes

You can’t escape your past

It’s a great day for horror fans, as Genvid Technologies and Behaviour Interactive have released a new trailer for Silent Hill: Ascension. Representing just one slice of the SH rejuvenation, this teaser gives a brief taste of things to come. Unlike the other projects, Ascension is going to be an interactive experience, produced in conjunction with J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robots. The fact that it’s being co-developed by the Dead by Daylight team should intrigue a few people.

The trailer itself does suggest that the game may depart from what fans have come to love about the iconic, yet criminally dormant, survival horror series. That’s not surprising, seeing as Ascension is pretty much a spin-off. However, the fact that you’ll get to influence the story directly should be enough of a pull. In any case, some of you are probably still pinching yourself that Silent Hill is finally coming back.

Not since 2012’s Book of Memories has there been a new entry, so it was a pleasant shock when, in November 2022, Konami announced a multitude of games under the SH umbrella. While such projects as Silent Hill f, with its creepy Japanese flavor, and Townfall are ones to look out for, the one that’s on everyone’s watch list is the remake of the 2001 masterpiece Silent Hill 2. This reimagining is being helmed by Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team. Make of that what you will.

On top of games, there’s also a new Silent Hill movie in production, which is being directed by Christophe Gans who did the 2006 adaptation. Essentially, it’s all go for Konami’s legendary horror series. Silent Hill: Ascension is currently in development, and is scheduled for release in 2023.
