The next big first-party PlayStation-exclusive is about four months away, but the more I see about it, the more excited I am for it.

God of War Laufey won’t launch until Feb. 16, 2027, but several new looks released by Sony’s Santa Monica Studio today has me fiending for more from the spin-off that somehow looks like it might have the most fun and engaging combat yet.

God of War Laufey pre-orders available starting September 29, editions detailed

Alongside info about the game’s pre-order bonuses (you can pre-order it starting tomorrow, and yes, it has a physical disc version) and a Digital Deluxe Edition, the devs revealed more info about Faye’s epic combat abilities.

Along with her sword and its talking ribbon Rue, and bouncy cube companion Phranque, Faye also has a Serpent Bow that she can use to keep enemies at bay from afar, or use up close to continue her combos while juggling foes a la the original Spartan trilogy.

The Serpent Bow has a precision mode used by holding down the trigger, and can even impair the enemy’s movement or ability to attack by hitting specific body parts. She can also hip-fire the bow for CQC attacks or to easily juggle enemies within melee distance.

So far, everything about God of War Laufey seems like a marriage (heh, get it? She’s Kratos’ wife?) of the series’ multiple identities. The combat seems like a combination of new and old, and Faye using a blade (like Kratos) and a bow (like her son Atreus) shows that this new battle system is looking to combine ideas from across the franchise to create something unique and special.

And then, of course, we have teasers like this:

Yeah, Kratos isn’t done. Whatever’s awaiting him on the other end of the afterlife of the gods in God of War Laufey should be enough to pull in even the biggest skeptics to see what’s next for the angry-god-turned-dad, despite his assumed ending in Ragnarok. You didn’t think he was really dead, did you?
