Publisher Bandai Namco has finally dropped details on its previously-teased new entry in the long-running Idolmaster series. The Idolmaster: Starlit Season is currently in development for PS4 and PC (via Steam), and is expected to launch in Japan later in 2020.

Running on Unreal Engine, Starlit Season will follow the path of Idolmaster titles that have come before, allowing the player to step into the role of an eager producer tasked with putting together a new idol empire. Players will put together a “special unit” – which makes them sound like an amazing counter-terrorist squad – from a large selection of gals taken from previous series entries, including Cinderella Girls, Shiny Colors, and Million Live! There will, however, be no male idols in this edition.

Manage your talent through training and merchandising, develop entertaining song and dance routines, and listen to the advice of your budding assistants and, over the course of a year, your Special Unit could win the grand prize of performing at the all-new Starlit Dome in front of thousands of fans.

Have you got what it takes to listen to the people? Is your finger on the pulse of what’s hip? Can you silence the wailing of your soul each and every sleepless night after greedily turning teenagers into money-making corporate DANCEBOTS? Then you’ll want to keep an ear to the ground in April, when Bandai Namco will release further details on this intriguing new sequel.

The Idolmaster: Starlit Season is currently in development for PS4 and PC.
