Get to know the people that make great videogames
This week on Sup Holmes we welcome Marcus Linblom to the program. Marcus is an long time veteran of the videogame industry with over 25 years of experience in the industry, having worked on more franchises that you can count, usually in a position seated fairly far into the background. That changed earlier this year when Earthbound was released on the Wii U Virtual Console. While Mother 2 (and the rest of the Mother series) is the brainchild of Shigesato Itoi, a lot of the particulars of Earthbound (Mother 2‘s localized name) came from Marcus (like the Eraser Eraser). If you haven’t played Eathbound, it’s not likely that you will be to deduce what I’m talking about, but rest assured that Marcus had a lot to do with making the Earthbound the beloved classic that it is today.
We’ll be talking about how he got started in the industry, what it’s been like to witness the rise, fall, and rebirth of Earthbound’s prominence in gaming culture, all the other game’s he’s worked on, the challenge of translating the prose and comedy of someone as idiosyncratic as Itoi, what he’d like to see happen with the Mother series, his new projects, and anything else that comes up. Tune it at 1pm PSt/4pm EST for the whole show!
