Street Fighter V rage-quitters will be ‘severely punished’ soon

Whoopin’ on their ass is a time-honored tradition, and then we’ll do it even faster in the turbo edition!

It’s the final round. You’ve clawed and scraped your way through two fights, and you’ve managed to hold off the other player’s hadoukens just long enough for you to seal your victory. The moment comes, your v-skill is ready to go. This is it! Your victory! Your destin-

“Player disconnected from game.” Shit.

Your heart sinks. Street Fighter V doesn’t punish players who leave, and it doesn’t reward the player who technically won. That entire match was forfeit, and all of your blood, sweat, and tears amounted to absolutely nothing. What’s the point in playing the ranked mode if everyone else can so easily avoid taking a loss?

Capcom has finally taken notice of this, and on the community blog has announced ‘severe punishment’ will be coming to those who regularly rage-quit from games. A permanent solution is in the works for an unspecified date, but a temporary fix will be introduced sometime this week:

“We are working on a permanent solution to this problem, though we don’t have an exact date to share with you at the moment. That said, we are going to take direct action starting next week to punish those players who are abusing the system.

This punishment will be severe for the worst offenders, but we will need the community’s help with this. We will follow up with more details next week, but over the weekend, please record every instance of rage quitting you encounter. The best way to do this is to use the SHARE function on the PlayStation 4 after the match has concluded, though any video evidence will suffice (Twitch archives, local recordings etc.).”

What exactly this permanent solution will be is anyone’s guess. It could simply matchmake ragequitters against each other, it could be banning them from online play, or it could even be a Capcom employee dropping by to shove the leaver’s joystick where the sun doesn’t shine.

We can only hope.
