Whoa, that was a big bug

Final Fantasy X lives in in the form of remasters. It’s been living on for quite some time actually, cementing its nearly two decade legacy with re-releases on PS3, PS4, Vita, PC, Switch, and Xbox One. So basically, Tidus has seen nearly every platform under the sun.

The only problem is one of those platforms (PC) was rocked earlier this month on March 7 by a nasty issue. It seems as if alongside of a “minor bug” fixing update, Square Enix stealth-patched in the “feature” of requiring Steam to be online to play the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster package; leaving tons of offline players furious. Just today Square Enix decided to roll back the patch, allowing folks to “continue to experience the game as before.”

The publisher says that “a new version of the last patch will be available in the near future,” implying that the upcoming patch will be identical to the last one minus the online restriction. This one is pretty cut and dried: Square Enix messed up and fixed it. It’s unfortunate that it happened and it was review-bombed for it, but it’s good now.
