Square Enix on iTunes: temporarily offline

Recommended Videos

Having trouble getting a hold of your favorite Square Enix soundtracks via iTunes lately?  That’s because their entire catalog of music (which had been quite extensive) recently disappeared from the international iTunes store.  We’ve been receiving many questions as to why this occurred; many thought it may have had to do with the new iTunes Match service launch, but we’ve gone ahead and asked Square Enix for an official statement on the matter, which reads as follows:

“Currently, official Square Enix soundtracks are temporarily unavailable for sale due to the changes we are going through with the iTunes North American service.  The items will be available as soon as the preparations are in place. We hope to resume availability of these items by March.”

In the meantime, fans can check out a small selection of physical releases imported directly from Japan but offered at more North America-friendly prices on the Square Enix North America store which is offering the Final Fantasy XIII-2 soundtrack for $34.99 and the original Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack for $29.99.

Do you ever pick up Square Enix music on iTunes, and were you even aware that they were offering physical CDs from Japan at reduced prices?  Do you think they’re still too expensive?
