Sony working on PlayStation 2 emulation for PS4

Could open up a huge, classic library

The PlayStation 4 can play PlayStation 2 games. The same special Battlefront bundle that includes Super Star Wars also includes Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, not as ports, but running as emulated PS2 games (in this case, potentially at higher resolutions).

Sony confirmed as much curtly, saying, “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

If Sony can draw on the 1,850 PS2 games, it could put the Xbox One’s backward compatibility to shame. Though it also remains to be seen — and we seem far out from an answer — if, say, this just means another store section opening up with which to buy things or if you can load up the new console with old PS2 discs.
