Solar Ash Kingdom has that same Hyper Light Drifter spirit

Heart Machine’s next game is off to a promising start

I am all the way into this debut trailer for Solar Ash Kingdom, the next action game from Hyper Light Drifter creator Heart Machine. The team has shifted from pixel art to full 3D, but their vibrant sense of style and color wasn’t lost in the trade. I can’t get over that cool hatching effect on the moon.

It’s an unsurprisingly minimalist trailer, but the more you look, the more details you’ll catch. For instance: did you notice there’s a character lurking inside the building in the scene shown up top?

“We strive to tell a beautiful story through our world, the atmosphere, our characters and even our gameplay – each aspect of our games are painstakingly considered – which requires a large investment of time,” game director Alx Preston told IGN. “Thanks for bearing with us and our relative silence.”

So far, Solar Ash Kingdom has only been explicitly confirmed for PC, but it’s safe to assume that one platform can’t contain this game. Annapurna Interactive is publishing on the Epic Games Store.
