Silent Hill: Downpour developer risks closure

Sigh. Another day, another studio facing its potential end. Up next for the theoretical chopping block is Silent Hill: Downpour developer Vatra Games, which has reportedly cancelled its upcoming God of War style action game.

Vatra’s parent company, Kuju, has stated that it’s undergoing a “strategic review” of its business practices, with Vatra’s activities included in the examination. The statement was made with all the diplomatic, non-committal phrases that usually mean folks are about to lose their jobs.

“The new management team at Kuju have been conducting a strategic review of all aspects of the business,” Kuju told Eurogamer. “As part of this process, the on-going business activities of the Vatra studio are currently under review. However, at this stage, no decisions have yet been made.”

As one of the people who felt Downpour was a truly great Silent Hill game, I’m very disappointed to hear Vatra may be closing its doors. I certainly hope the studio pulls through. We’re really seeing too many solid developers go down lately.
