Sign up for Epic Games’ Fortnite alpha

They’re finally ready to talk about the game

Epic has kept mostly quiet about Fortnite for years now and in that time I’ve gone from being excited to not caring at all to really, really caring. Now that the studio has opened alpha sign-ups and shared a bunch of information with Game Informer for a cover story, I’m back on board.

Fortnite is a free-to-play third-person shooter with procedurally generated worlds in which you can build crazy forts with friends and acquire loot and improve your character with an RPG-like progression system. A game I want to experience first-hand, in other words.

There’s a bit of gameplay footage, if you need more convincing. I’m less worried about the free-to-play component knowing this is Epic but that’s the one sticking point I see so far.
