Sci-fi 2D platformer Orphan looks like a mashup of Limbo and H.G. Wells

And I’m totally OK with that

Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way, shall we? Yes, Orphan immediately brings to mind Limbo. That’s perfectly fine by me, though. I have enough room left in my heart for more games that can leverage the delightfully dark aesthetic that’s now synonymous with Playdead’s moody puzzle platformer; so long as the titles in question manage to stay true to their own vision and don’t attempt to simply reskin what they drew inspiration from in the first place.

This seems to be the case in Tennessee-based Windy Hill Studio’s, sci-fi oriented 2D platformer, Orphan. While it shares certain visual qualities with the now iconic indie darling, Windy Hill’s project looks to bring more action to the table, demonstrating some basic combat elements as the mysterious young boy wields a laser to fend off the attacking mechanical horde.

While the teaser — by its teasing nature — doesn’t offer a great deal of information as to what’s going on in the game, it does indicate that the world as we know it has been destroyed after some sort of hostile alien invasion, leaving survivors to fend for themselves as they are hunted down for extermination. Artsy post-apocalyptic 2D platformer? Yes, please!

Currently, the title’s seeking Steam Greenlight approval, so if you like what Windy Hill is putting together here, why not take a minute out of your day to throw them an upvote? Coincidentally, it’s looking like this one will also be coming to Kickstarter for funding at some point down the road, so we’ll be sure to report on that when the time comes.

Enjoy the teaser, and if you’d like to learn a bit more about the game or the studio who’s producing it, you can find more information on the title’s official website.
