Ironic enemy of fantasy violence, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was warned that his attempts to label mature games as violent and make their sale to minors a felony went against the constitution, would be thrown out of court, and could end up costing his taxpayers a ridiculous amount of money. Mr. Commando, however, pressed ahead anyway and got exactly what he was promised. His unconstitutional law was thrown out and now it’s been revealed that California taxpayers may have to stump up a collective $324,840 when the videogame industry sues to have its legal fees reimbursed. Should the ESA succeed in this, and it’s highly likely, it will push the overall taxpayer costs for fighting these so-called violent games in the US over $1 million. This is what your American tax dollars are going towards, people — a couple of arsecandles who don’t like videogames.
The star of Predator, Terminator II: Back in the Habit and a myriad other violent movies has hypocritically had a bug up his backside over violent content in videogames and what they might do to the precious chilluns for a while now. I should point out that before the age of 11, I had watched a vast majority of Schwarzenegger’s blood-soaked, bullet-riddled films and still remember the Terminator-based arcade game. I should just point that out. He and Senator Yee (professional jackass) worked together to fight the videogame industry, like other politicians before them, and like those very politicians, had their fight rejected. It’s hardly surprising, since they seem to be involving themselves in a fight that doesn’t even exist — videogames are already rated and approved for sale to certain age groups — we HAVE rules in place to protect children, and we all agree that a ten year old shouldn’t be able to go and buy God of War, so outside of simply banning all videogames, I fail to see what more they feel should be done.
The very fact that these anti-videogame laws never get approved is proof positive that the battle makes no sense and is meritless. Nevertheless, Schwarzenegger and that idiot-boy Yee are still convinced of their righteousness and will continue the campaign even in defeat, which I’m sure will cost California even more money while increasing the collective cash that American people have had to sink into the anti-videogame war. I do hope that Californian people think about this when it comes time to vote.
