There’s nothing more fun than being expected to pay to play a game on a service you’re already paying to use, and it seems more and more likely that Microsoft is going to make such dreams a reality. A survey has been unearthed that lends more credence to the suggestion that MS will soon be charging for the privilege of playing 1 vs. 100, as it gauges interest among the consumer for such an initiative.
The survey asks the dreaded question: “If 1 vs. 100 were not available as part of your Xbox Live Gold Membership Account, how likely would you be to purchase 1 vs. 100 for $15 per season (13 weeks)?”
The current business model is that 1 vs. 100 is “free” to XBL Gold members, but is supported by commercials. Microsoft, however, is incredibly greedy and would obviously jump at the chance to gouge more cash out of the pockets of its customers. Methinks that if enough people are stupid enough to answer positively (and they will, because most people are idiots), then 1 vs. 100 will soon be pay-to-play.
Oh, and it’ll most likely still be full of commercials. Because this is Microsoft we’re talking about.
