Rumor: Next Xbox will be $499, or $299 with a sub

And a not-entirely-clear update on the ‘always online’ front

The latest next Xbox rumblings have been put forth by tech blogger Paul Thurrott, who claims the new console will be based on the “Core” version of Windows 8, priced at $499 or $299 with a two-year Xbox Live Gold subscription at $10 per month, and must be connected to the internet to use.

“This is source of the ‘always on’/’always online’ rumors and isn’t as Draconian as many seem to believe,” he wrote. If accurate, I can’t wait to hear Microsoft’s precisely-worded pitch. Thurrott also has reason to believe the Xbox will launch in November and that Microsoft will at some point put out another, cheaper model of the Xbox 360 (codenamed “Stingray”), which seems like a safe bet.

Whatever the case may be, we’ll hear more about the console on the morning of May 21, 2013 as well as additional information at E3. Thank eff for that.
