Retro Game Challenge 2 fan translation almost complete

Now someone just needs to get it on the eShop

The old rule of thumb was that fan translations never get picked by the game’s original developer or publisher, but Stiens;Gate and Ys: The Oath of Felghana proved differently. I hope that Retro Game Challenge 2 (known as Game Center CX 2 in Japan) joins the ranks of fan translated games that are later used in official distribution. For those that haven’t been keeping up, the Game Center CX series is based on the exploits of Shinya “father of Lets Plays” Arino’s TV show by the same name. They’re a timeless collection of new-but-familiar 8- and 16-bit-style games created by indiezeros, the group who helped develop the Theatrythm Final FantasyElectroplankton, and NES Remix series.

Unrivaled Punch Kung Fu is probably my favorite of the bunch. It has some of the most beautiful animation and ridiculous action ever seen in single-plane, 2D brawler. That’s not to diminish the worth of the other games here. Demon Returns and its 16-bit sequel Super Demon Returns offer up a glimpse of Ghouls ‘N Ghost-meets-Mario magic, while Guadia Quest Saga is old school Dragon Quest mixed with Persona’s demon alter-ego acquisition. Even the puzzle game, Triotos (available as a stand-alone release on iOS) is amazing.

Lets hope Namco-Bandai or some other enterprising publisher (I’m looking at you, Renegade Kid) does what it takes to bring the DS classic to the 3DS and Wii U.
