End of an era for the DualShock?
According to a senior game studio who spoke with CVG, Sony is cooking up a controller for its next-generation console that won’t be more of the same. The source says that of the multiple iterations they’re aware of, few resemble the traditional DualShock design; some versions include biometric sensors on the grips and an LCD touch screen.
A separate source told the outlet that Sony’s engineers are “trying to emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PS Vita.” I shudder to think about the types of launch-window games and their insistence to go overboard with utilizing such features, assuming they make it into the final hardware.
The DualShock has been around for so long that while I’m not dying for Sony to come out with a new form factor for its controllers, the familiarity of it all has become a bit boring. That said, there’s a middle ground between the original PS3 boomerang controller (pictured above) and offering advancements like the aforementioned biometric sensors.
