According to the latest issue of GamePro, Epic and Microsoft will be offering five maps as downloadable content day-and-date with the release of Gears of War 2. The five maps may look familiar — they’re all from the original Gears of War.
“Gridlock,” “Subway,” “Canals,” “Mansion,” and “Tyro Station” will be made available as download when the game launches next month. The catch: the maps will be free, and accessible by redeeming a voucher code that comes packed in with Gears of War 2.
So there’s a bit of an uproar over this. The catch is that you must purchase a new copy of Gears of War 2 in order to get the code; once said code is redeemed, it becomes useless (think MS Points cards). How hard this will hit the used Gears 2 market remains to be seen, but it’s likely (yet not confirmed) that the maps will be made available for purchase using Microsoft’s MS Points moon money.
