Waiting for a PlayStation 3 is hard. On one hand, you’ve got to camp out on some dingy street for a few days and nights, and on the other, well, you get f’ing shot! It seems as soon as the PS3 dropped, civility in American went right out the window. Forget BB guns, people are now shooting with real bullets:

On the first day the much anticipated PlayStation 3 hit shelves in stores across the country, two armed thugs in Connecticut targeted game seekers with fat wallets, shooting one person waiting in a Wal-Mart line who refused to give up money, authorities said.

Police were still searching for the suspects, both believed to be in their teens. Police said one suspect was wearing a ski mask and brandishing a handgun, and the other had what appeared to be a shotgun.

The two tried to rob of line of people waiting to buy the new gaming console early Friday. They confronted a “bunch of people who were in line” outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police. The new Sony consoles are selling for around $500 to $600.

“One of the patron’s resisted. That patron was shot,” Vance said.

The two gunmen apparently fled, and the 21-year-old male victim was taken to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. There was no immediate word on the victim’s condition.

I wonder if the Sony execs feel good about their decision to rush a console like this. It’d be interesting to see how many people got beat up, shot at, sick, lost a job, whatever could happen to someone camping outside because Sony wanted to rush out the most wanted console without sufficient units. Somewhere Kaz is smiling and a child is bleeding to death. Welcome to next gen.
