Last week, Sony’s Jack Tretton announced that the PlayStation 3 has just started hitting its stride. Does that corporate line sound familiar? It should do, because Sony’s claimed that the PS3 has just “hit its stride” on three other occasions — all in separate years. Can something “just hit its stride” four times?
As noted on NeoGAF, Tretton first claimed that the PS3 had begun hitting its stride way back in 2008. He’d resist the urge to say it in 2009, but busted the line out in 2010, declaring once again that the PS3 was “hitting its stride.” That seemed to start an annual tradition, with the SCEA chief repeating his claim in 2011.
His latest statement for 2012 was in conjunction with a PlayStation 4 announcement, declaring Sony would not reveal a new home console this year because it would take away from the PS3, which is — everybody join in — just hitting its stride!
So if the PS3 is “just” hitting its stride in 2012, was Tretton lying all those other times? Must’ve been. If he’s going to chat shit at every opportunity, the man needs to at least carry a Thesaurus with him.
