According to the International Data Corporation, the PlayStation 3 has surpassed the Xbox 360 in number of units shipped worldwide. The report, Worldwide Video Game and Entertainment Console Hardware and Packaged Software 2012–2016 Forecast, puts the consoles at 77 million and 76 million consoles shipped, respectively.

Not exactly meaningful to us as gamers at this point, but the firm did offer an interesting take on the Wii U. As reported by Games Industry International, IDC believes the new Nintendo console will “find an audience” and manage to have shipped 50 million consoles worldwide by the end of 2016. Not to be skeptical, but there’s a lot of work ahead if that’s going to happen.
