In a tragic series of events, a Philadelphia police officer named Robert Wilson III was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at a Gamestop store this past week.

Wilson, who was performing an on duty security check of the store and picking up a gift to reward his eight-year-old son for doing well at school, found himself in an intense shootout during what should have been a routine visit.

According to NBC Philadelphia, two men entered the store at around 4:30 PM last Thursday thinking it would be an easy target, unexpectedly encountering Wilson in uniform. A shootout ensued, with more than 50 shots being fired in just 30 seconds.

Wilson was shot several times at close range and died due to a shot to the head.

Carlton Hipps and Ramone Williams were later captured and charged with first-degree murder, as well as attempted murder for attacking Wilson’s partner, Damien Stephenson. Hipps was shot in the leg during the shootout and Williams was caught due to returning to the store later that day.
