Sony Interactive Entertainment is adding another studio to the PlayStation Studios lineup. Bluepoint Games is now officially a PlayStation studio.

Bluepoint Games has developed several notable reworkings of games for Sony in the past, including its PlayStation 5 remake of FromSoftware’s Demon’s Souls and the PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus, as well as remasters like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.

With this new announcement, Sony is making the partnership official. In a PlayStation blog, head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst says Bluepoint Games’ expertise in world building and character creation will be a “huge plus” for future PlayStation Studio properties.

“PlayStation has such an iconic gaming catalog and for us there’s been nothing better than to bring some of gaming’s masterpieces to new players,” said Marco Thrush, President of Bluepoint Games, in today’s blog. “Becoming a part of PlayStation Studios, empowers our team to raise the quality-bar even further and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community.”

In terms of what Bluepoint working on under the PlayStation banner, we have a little bit of a hint. Thrush did a few interviews with sites like IGN and The Washington Post for this news, and in both he says that Bluepoint will be working on something original.

“It finally gives us the ability to work on original content, which is what we’re actually currently doing,” Thrush told The Washington Post.

An original from the Bluepoint team behind the pretty solid PlayStation 5 remake of Demon’s Souls certainly sounds interesting. And this adds even more to the PlayStation studios lineup, as Sony has been steadily acquiring studios ranging from Nixxes and Firesprite to Housemarque this year. The result of all these pick-ups will be interesting to see.
