Nothing opened this weekend so the same movies made money

Box office round up

No studio was interested in pulling in some extra cash as summer closed out over Labor Day weekend. Operation Finale and Kin were basically the biggest release this weekend, and Paramount didn’t even give Kin much a chance with a small national roll out. Such is the life of a three day weekend at the end of summer.

That means all the regulars from the past month continued their domination. Crazy Rich Asians and The Meg sit at the top pulling in more money to add to both their surprising totals, with the former joining the latter in the $100 million box office club. Also, Searching is becoming a quite little sleeper hit with two solid weekends under its belt as it open wider. The film has way more buzz than I thought it would so maybe someone has finally done something truly interesting with the whole computer screen movie gimmick.

1. Crazy Rich Asians – $28,310,000
2. The Meg – $13,445,000
3. Mission: Impossible – Fallout – $9,050,000
