No accounting for taste: Max Payne takes number one spot at weekend box office

Recommended Videos

Perhaps if America had read our review of the Max Payne film, this wouldn’t have happened.

Reuters is reporting that the film adaptation of Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, topped the North American box office this weekend. Raking in $18 million during its opening weekend, Max Payne overtook Disney’s brilliant Beverly Hills Chihuahua at No. 2 and The Secret Life of Bees at No. 3. Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush biopic W debut this week at No. 4, bringing in a decent $10.6 million, but falling short of expectations.

So what were you guys seeing this weekend? Was our dismal review of Max Payne enough to scare you away from the sticky floors of your local theater? I have to be honest, despite rotten reviews across the board (particularly from gamers), I’m still interested in checking out Max Payne … for the same reason I slow down to see a fender bender. Or a horrific motorcycle accident.
