Nintendo will run a two-week “tariff-related” Customer Appreciation Sale, marking down “dozens of Nintendo Switch digital games and bundles” by 30 percent.
The company says that the sale is “made possible in part by tariff-related refunds” after the company reportedly received around $300 million in repayments after the current US administration’s policies helped cause price increases across hardware and just about every other kind of import last year.
“While Nintendo absorbed most tariff-related costs, the refunds helped make promotions like this one possible,” the company said of the sale, which begins on Sunday.
Earlier this year, Nintendo moved to dismiss a class action lawsuit filed by gamers who were asking for refunds due to tariffs increasing prices on the Switch 2, games, and peripherals. That never felt like it was a possibility in the first place, but Nintendo is now saying, “hey, have 30 percent off instead.”
“Whether you’re jumping into a Nintendo Switch favorite for the first time, or revisiting an adventure on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 system, the Customer Appreciation Sale is packed with savings on dozens of Nintendo Switch games, accessories, and more,” the company said.
Gaming is becoming more and more expensive, and truly feels like a luxury hobby. While console and game prices remain at all-time highs, I have to commend Nintendo for running a sale like this, even if it’s just for good PR. They will likely make good money off of the sale either way, but if it helps gamers enjoy titles and hardware they may otherwise not have, then it’s a win-win.
The sale will run from Sept. 13 to 26 and be included across the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Store, and participating retailers. Exact specifics aren’t available just yet, but it’ll be worth checking out sales when they hit this weekend.
